This shirt was issued to Pat Bonner for the match against West Germany 'B' in Bremen on May 21st 1981. It was the shirt that Bonner wore on the substitutes bench for Ireland; he exchanged it with one of the German players after the match. It was recently sold at a German auction house and then subsequently sold on to me. Three days after the West Germany 'B' match, Ireland played Poland in Bydgoszcz and Bonner was this time promoted to the starting eleven, making his first ever appearance for Ireland. He went on to become arguably Ireland's finest goalkeeper of all time! Given the unique history of the shirt, it has to be said that it is very rare indeed! The shirt is still in immaculate condition - as the photographs show. It has been very well looked after over the years!
