This shirt was worn by Liverpool legend Steve Heighway whilst playing for the Republic of Ireland between 1976 and 1978. Regrettably, I do not yet know which match it was worn in but there are clear mud stains on the shirt which is why I am certain that it is a match worn shirt. The shirt is a short-sleeved white, away, shirt with the Number 9 sewn onto the rear. Heighway is pictured below prior to an international match wearing what appears to be a very similar shirt, and also in action against France in 1980.
The shirt was obtained through a very reliable source with excellent connections at Liverpool FC who has assured me that this was actually worn by Heighway. Steve Heighway was described by some as the Republic of Ireland's George Best. Whilst he was undoubtedly a star playing in the red of Liverpool he never really reproduced that same outstanding form playing for Ireland.
