This shirt was issued to James McCarthy for the 2-0 defeat to Brazil on March 2nd 2010. The match was played at the Emirates stadium in London and was used by Ireland manager Trapattoni to have a look at some younger fringe players. It was McCarthy's first call-up to the senior Irish squad and he came on as a substitute during the game. This was the first time that Ireland played in this new style of kit. Although McCarthy wore short-sleeves in the match, he was later quoted as saying that he 'snubbed Kaka's shirt' so he could give his own worn shirt to his parents. Therefore, this shirt has to be an unworn spare as it came from a source close to the Brazilian FA.
