This shirt was allocated to Phil Babb for the 1994 World Cup Finals in the USA. I do not know if it has been worn or not. The shirt is the green, home, strip and it carries the special embroidery in Irish, Corn an Domhain USA '94 around the FAI logo. This translates as "World Cup USA '94". The shirt has been signed on the front by Phil Babb with 'Best Wishes' also inscribed. I purchased this shirt at a recent auction at Sotheby's.
During the 1994 World Cup Finals, Ireland played in a total of four matches. In only one of those matches did they were green shirts - the opening fixture against Italy which they won 1-0. However, the team was allocated a complete green kit for every match - even though they played in white for most of the matches. Therefore, it is impossible to trace where this shirt was used.
Phil Babb was arguably Ireland's best player at the 1994 World Cup Finals. His performaces were assured and skillful. Following the World Cup he secured a big-money transfer from Coventry City to Liverpool. Unfortunately, he never managed to play to the same high standard at Anfield and was transferred out of Liverpool a few years later.
